NOTABLE NOMADS

"The only things which are still worth what they have cost me are my travel memories, the mind-pictures of places which I have been hoarding like a happy miser."

~Burton Holmes

I have always been a fan of Burton Holmes, admiring his itch to see the world, but also his need to document it. Born in 1870 in Chicago, Burton became an accomplished traveler, photographer, and filmmaker. He got the travel bug at age nine when his grandmother took him to hear a then-famous travel lecturer, John L. Stoddard. Perhaps Holmes also boasted a nomadic habit.

Interesting fact: he coined the term "travelogue."
